These Twenty five epithets of goddess lalitā parā bhattārika was initiated by lord hayagreeva (the horse necked incarnation of lord Vishnu who learnt the path of srividyā and perfected it under the direct guidance of Devi.) to sage Agastya upon his polite request.

These epithets are found in the eleventh chapter of Lalitopākhyāna which is a part of Brahmānda Mahā Purāna.
