The distractions and noises of daily life attempt to drown out the gentle breeze of God’s voice (cf. 1 Kg 19:9-18, but if we put forth the effort we can. Then there are the excuses that come for ignoring what God has said. Obedience in not easy, especially when being obedient could bring discomfort or even danger. Thankfully, we have heroes and heroines in the scriptures who are encouraging examples.
In last week’s first reading we heard Jeremiah complain about being obedient to God in addressing the nation of Judah. Today’s first reading is God telling Ezekiel to go one-on-one with others.
