My morning routine includes a cup of fresh brewed coffee. I was about to pour my cup and I noticed it was not very coffee colored. There were no tasty grounds in the coffee maker. I chided myself for being hasty and remembered my dad’s words: “the devil is in the details.”
As I thought on my carelessness, I also realized how prayers become automatic and routine, much like a chore to be finished rather than a heartfelt conversation with God. As I reflected on this, renewal within spread throughout my heart, soul, and mind, warming me spiritually as the now, twice-brewed coffee, gave me delayed gratification of physical warmth.
