Publisher's Summary:
From Mel White, author of Stranger at the Gate: To be Gay and Christian in America:
In Two Pews from Crazy, the author takes us on a painful but always hopeful spiritual journey that made me think of Pilgrim's Progress. Each time this lesbian Christian pastor nears the "Celestial City", there's another "Slough of Despond". "Valley of Humiliation", or "River of Death" to cross.
It's a kind of miracle that Reverend Cyd is still standing after being born a female in a male dominated culture, after accepting her sexual orientation in the homophobic South, after refusing to renounce her call to ministry in a Christian community that forbids women clergy, after adopting a child, and after losing three different partners and suffering through spiritual and emotional abuse as a pastor.
Cyd has a great sense of humor. The chapters are short. Her story is honest, frank, easy to follow, and never dull. And though her journey is sometimes painful, it is also a celebration of god's presence and power in the life of a lesbian Christian pastor who never stops believing that god loves her and is with her every step of the way.
Hearing Cyd's story reminded me that god loves me, too, and is with me on my own sometimes painful journey. If you need to be reminded of the Holy Spirit's presence and power in your life, just sit down next to Reverend Cyd just two pews from crazy, and enjoy.

Two Thumbs up for Two Pews
I loved this book! It is a highly personal account of a woman navigating the turbulent waters of society and Christian fundamentalism. The story is told with heart and emotion. Cyd has courage and determination, and she demonstrates this over and over. I am happy she has shared her inspiring message with the world. This is a great read!
Let it go! Let it go! Don't be ugly anymore!
I don't have to be a past member or even know Pastor Cyd or the said former congregation she pastored. But I do know I am gay and a Christian and my Bible tells me "judge not lest ye shall be judged" Matthew 7:1. Not one of us on this earth is perfect and not one of us has suffered, pain, heartache, and deserve forgiveness and the more negative I read in these comments deeply saddens me for the whole community and that 2 wrongs don't make a right. Enough said .. Obviously a lot of bitterness and time being wasted over something that in my opinion should be "let go"!
So very sad. I hate to even write this
So very sad. I hate to even write this, because I so want there to be pastors in this world that do welcome all and love and pastor all. I can not stay silent on this one though. Cindy was a comedian on Sunday mornings, but rarely pastoral. Now SHE feels like she was abandoned and neglected and mistreated? She is clueless how often she made people in her congregation feel abandoned. She talked the talk of inclusion when it fit her needs, but did not walk it when it came to the needs of others. This is not the story of a humble servant of God, but someone with a very big ego. Honestly, she needs help. Yes, pastors are human too, but they need to be honest, and this book is far from honest. Wow, I did not realize how distorted her view of reality was until I read this. So very sad. I know the endorser of this book, and know that if he knew the truth behind how Cindy led this congregation, he would not have endorsed this.
