Jeannie and I officially celebrated the launch of Inside Care during our special Substack Live conversation. Please take a listen and we encourage you to submit your work! As Jeannie said, we are not highfalutin gatekeepers, and we welcome your submissions.

I couldn’t ask for a better co-editor for this project than Jeannie as she is as authentic, empathetic, and genuine as they come.

We know what it’s like to feel alone and isolated as caregivers ourselves, to have really hard truths that aren’t easy to express or come to grips with.

We want other caregivers to submit their raw, honest work without hesitation. While we cannot accept every single poem for publication, we’ll read every submission with the care and empathy it deserves.

Like you, we have lived through it all and are still living through it now. Our goal is to build an anthology that shines a light onto the wide-ranging emotions and experiences that caregivers have, and help other caregivers feel seen, represented, and less alone.

Welcome to a new episode of Typing It Real, which is now available in podcast form! I’ve been very blessed to have so many authentic conversations and interactions with real people on Substack during my first year on this incredible platform. As I enter this next chapter, I was thrilled to speak with singer/songwriter Becca Roth about music, motherhood, and why it’s better to “leave the mistakes in.”

Becca’s new single “Supposed To Be” is being released next week on September 3rd, and stay tuned for her new album Birthday Tears to come in November!

During our conversation, we talked about one of the most amazing collaborations I’ve been a part of, not just on Substack but in life. When I posted my poem 6:04 Daydreams on my Notes feed a few months ago, Becca responded and said she really liked the lyrical flow of the poem. I then replied and asked Becca if she wanted to turn my poem into an original song.

Fast forward to now, and during today’s conversation, I thought it would be a real treat for me to read 6:04 Daydreams and then have Becca sing the song live. This way, listeners can hear my original spoken word version of the poem, followed by Becca’s fantastic interpretation. It was a real gift to see and hear Becca sing live, and I am truly honored that she decided to grace us with her guitar and vocal prowess.

What I love about conversations like these is that they aren’t overproduced and perfectly polished. Instead, we are simply being present, living in the moment, and enjoying each other’s company while learning about each other.

In the age of AI, we need conversations like these — and singer/songwriters like Becca Roth — more than ever. Thank you Becca!

Dear Dr. Ellie Hambly, Thank you for having me on as your guest on Substack Live. And thank you for allowing this raw and vulnerable discussion about asking for help and why it’s so hard to do so when most caregivers like me are always in “go mode” without the luxury of a nervous system reset.

My goal is to help other caregivers feel like they can have permission to ask for help. So many of us are underwater and I know from personal experience that it’s not easy to request a lifeboat.
