Udham Singh, also known as Shaheed Udham Singh, was a prominent figure in India's independence movement against British colonial rule. He was born on December 26, 1899, in Sunam, Punjab, which was then part of British India.

Udham Singh is best known for assassinating Sir Michael O'Dwyer, the former Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab, on March 13, 1940, in London. O'Dwyer was responsible for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that took place on April 13, 1919, in Amritsar, Punjab. During the massacre, British troops under O'Dwyer's command opened fire on a peaceful gathering of Indians, resulting in hundreds of deaths and injuries.

Udham Singh considered the massacre a great injustice and sought revenge for the lives lost. After the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, he escaped to various countries, including the United States and Europe, where he worked and supported himself. In 1940, he tracked down O'Dwyer and shot him at a meeting of the East India Association and the Royal Central Asian Society in London. Singh was arrested and subsequently sentenced to death.
