Irish welterweight contender Ian Machado Garry moved one step closer to a shot at the UFC welterweight title as he defeated Carlos Prates in the main event of UFC Kansas City.

Machado Garry claimed an impressive win over the Brazilian, then announced that he's the official backup fighter for the upcoming title clash between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315.

Also this past weekend, Justin Burlinson completed a remarkable personal comeback story as he bounced back from injury and cancer to return to Cage Warriors and, at Cage Warriors 188, he came back from the brink of defeat to dethrone James Sheehan and capture the Cage Warriors welterweight title.

On the same fight card at the RDS, Dublin-based Englishman and former middleweight champion James Webb successfully defended his newly-won Cage Warriors light heavyweight title.

Elsewhere in Europe, OKTAGON MMA's €1 million Tipsport Gamechanger tournament saw the quarter-final lineup confirmed after four big opening-round fights at OKTAGON 70 in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic.

And in Gliwice, Poland, World's Strongest Men collided as Eddie Hall bludgeoned Mariusz Pudzianowski in 30 seconds on his MMA debut at KSW 105.
