Barbara Harris is a local historian, living in the area around Joshua Tree National Park. For well over 30 years, she has researched the History of the Morongo Basin’s Giant Rock. It was once considered the largest freestanding boulder in the world and was home to the “First Space Channeler” George Van Tassel, the man responsible for the construction of the Integratron, a rejuvention/ time machine. Van Tassel brought awareness to his project by holding UFO “Spacecraft Conventions” at the Giant Rock. Over 10,000 people would find their way to Landers, a remote location of the Mojave Desert to hear “Contactees” such as George Adamski and Daniel Fry speak at these conventions. Unfortunately, Van Tassel never saw his dream fulfilled, dying of a heart attack, weeks before the Integratron was to be activated.
Barbara’s passion has been researching these types of mysterious and unusual stories of the Mojave Desert. As a former President of the Morongo Basin Historical Society she has successfully combined her business skills in Computer Graphics and Advertising with her knowledge of mysterious desert history, to create a private travel business that gives a unique perspective to visitors wanting to explore the local desert.
When she is not out roaming the desert Barbara is presenting lectures on Giant Rock and The Integratron, sharing local history, folklore and legends behind the stories that make up this place she calls home. She is presently working on a book and revising her website. Visit the current website at www.giantrock project.com
