Initially, the final two tracks had a lot of issues. 'Sunchyme' was overly compressed to the point that the bass would rumble and 'Flower Duet '99' was pitched way too high with a thin bassline. I have old plugins that require manual adjusting to get the sound you want as opposed to a one click solution.
I spent so much time messing with the quality, that it didn't dawn on me until listening back in my car that FD was still pitched too high and that it would better serve the overall flow of the mix to switch the songs due to significant tempo changes. Everything is now fixed to my anal satisfaction.
It's hard to appreciate my attention to detail until you hear the differences side by side but these were so noticeable — I felt compelled to go back and fix them for preservation.
Party Favorz is dropping the fourth and final volume of the Ultimate Trance Classics series — a tribute set that's been in the works for over a year since the original release in 2010.
Other than the fact that these sets are mixed much better than the original — they expand the original's reach delivering a memory trip for those club kids who were at all the raves dancing their assess off until the break of dawn.
One caveat is the closing 'Sunchyme' by Dario G — a song that holds a very special place in many a heart. I opted not to go with the original (which worked) but found the official remixes that accompanied this release lacking. Club 69 (a.k.a. Peter Rauhofer) tried to remake the wheel for this song and it fell flat. The same can be said for Sasha who also contributed an official remix.
The familiar choir hook lifted from the 'Life In a Northern Town' by Dream Academy (1986) set across an uplifting intrumental with piano wasn't something you wanted to stray too far from. Enter the Mastermix 'Diffusion Remix' from 2006. This version was included because not only did it stay true to the original, it's the only other remix this song should have received. By bumping up the BPM and adding a deep bassline to the original version, this remix (which borders on Eurodance) would have been the definitive dance floor version had it been released at the time, thus its inclusion. I don't think anyone will be disappointed because it just makes sense.
I hope all our little Trance-loving kids enjoyed these sets as much as I've enjoyed bringing them back to life. I really was pleasantly surprised at how well this all came together after struggling to create the original series in 2010.
I'll back next week just in time for everyone's Spring Break with some party music fair. Until then...ENJOY!
As many of you may not know, Party Favorz hosting is up for renewal in a few days and it would be helpful if you could help pitch in to cover the costs. This is a once a year ask for donations but is not mandatory. I want to give a shout out to Gene R. ($10) for his generous donation. We're just under $100 shy of reaching our goal.
If you would like to donate you may do so below. Every little bit helps.
