Well the winter season is upon us with all that bloody snow over the weekend but enough talk about winter ,i'v been reading a book about B B King titled King Of The Blues (The Rise And Reign Of B B King ) .Any self respecting Musician would know about B B King great Blues Guitarist and one hell of a singing voice. He grew up hard and tough in Mississippi ,he married his first wife when he was eighteen ,nighteen years old ,his wife back then was only fourteen for christ sakes, but also the book mentions his influences . Guys like Charlie Christian who was more Jazz than Blues and also other guys like Robert Johnson and Charlie Patton who came out of the Mississippi Delta .My point is that these guys died pretty young. Charlie Christian for starters he died age 25 from tuberculosis thats practically a kid . It also mentions blues singers like Ma Rainey & Bessie Smith . These artist not only performed the Blues as an art form but they lived the Blues it was a way of life .Its a really good book i'm about halfway through.

And finally on another sad note the great Jazz Drummer Jack DeJohnette just passed away yesterday at age 83 years old . I did'nt believe it at first i thought it was a fake post .But then i read it again this morning .This dude played with the likes of Miles Davis ,Keith Jarrett . Bloody hell man its been 2 weeks and 2 great Musician Legends have gone ,Anthony Jackson and now Jack De Johnette .It was a bit of a shock when Chick Corea & George Duke Passed on some years back . The only positive thing is that the Music they left behind will always be here.Music is forever. Stay Funky !!

Finally on a somber note ,

I would like to express my condolences to the recent passing of one of my Bass Guitar idols

Anthony Jackson .Bit of a shock really something you don't expect .But i have to say that he was a big inspiration to me in my teen years when i was still fumbling about trying to learn stuff .I bought my first 6 String Bass Guitar because of him, he invented the 6 String Bass .I understood his concept for more range on the neck more notes more expression.4 Strings just was'nt enough.I first heard his playing on Al Di Meolas album Elegant Gypsy from 1977 .I looked on the album credits to find out who the Bass Player was ,i saw Jackson on the credits and immediately assumed that it was Paul Jackson from The HeadHunters ,Herbie Hancock but then i realized that it was a different dude all together just because of the playing and style of playing, phrasing etc .And thats when i got into him and started to learn some of his Bass lines.I was also listening to Stanley Clarke as well at the time. A great time to discover Musicians. But i always had a great admiration for Anthony Jackson
