Umatilla tribal leader passes the drip torch to future generations learning about prescribed fire

Before colonization, many Northwestern tribes used fire to replenish lands. Those fires burned grasses and underbrush, adding nutrients to the soil and helping plants germinate. Raymond Huesties of the Umatilla tribe is sharing this knowledge of prescribed fire with younger generations.
