UN chief urges 'credible plan' for climate change

Listen Later

UN Secretary-General António Guterres is urging world leaders to deliver a "bold and credible response plan" to climate change at the COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil, warning that the world has failed to prevent global temperatures from temporarily overshooting the critical 1.5°C limit.
Speaking at the opening of the Leaders' Summit on November 6, 2025, Guterres stressed that while an overshoot beyond the 1.5°C threshold in the early 2030s appears inevitable based on current trends, nations can still work to make that overshoot "as small and as short as possible".
