I sat down with Una Beaudry to talk about running, strength, sickness, positivity, and what she’s got planned for her future.

Una ran three 100ks in three months, she and her husband went on a self-guided run/eating/drinking tour through the Cinque Terra region of Italy, and she fills me in on the “tour de France of running” in Canada…a race I knew little about.

Then we get serious.

Una battled heart and  anxiety issues as a young woman, then was dealt a hefty blow when she discovered a lump in her breast last year. How would this change her life? Was she really that sick?  Would she get to run in Italy with her husband again?

Oh wow, I look like cancer. It’s kind of shocking and I forget…

This interview is about a runner and we discuss how the sport is weaved into her every day life, but we discuss health issues, mindset, and adaptability primarily.

Everyone deals with news differently and Una’s attitude and outlook is an example of how I hope I’d handle myself in her situation: A mix of humor, enthusiasm, positivity, and grace. Whether you’re someone who’s dealt with cancer, knows someone who’s going through it, or have a history in your family, this will be an important episode for you.
