Fishdom, created by Playrix Entertainment or Playrix Games, is a puzzle game released in 2008. It was primarily made for iOS and Nintendo DS but can now be played on PC through Games.lol. The puzzle in Fishdom is specifically identified as a “match 3 game” which is also often called tile-matching. The premise of these kinds of game is that players have to plot the tiles in such a way that they match each other, thereby making the tiles disappear.
Though it is a puzzle game, the main concern of players in Fishdom is to actually grow one’s aquarium. This means you have to take care of your fish, acquire more fish, and decorate the aquarium accordingly. The better a player does this, the higher their fishes’ beauty and comfort will be. Players will be rewarded if the metrics for their fish fill up. The catch is that buying fish and things for your fish amounts to an in-game currency which can only be replenished by playing the match-3 puzzles and other mini-games in Fishdom. The puzzle aspect of Fishdom is a completely different mode from the aquarium designing. The puzzle is also classified as match-3 puzzles where tiles must be matched to get points and clear tiles. To clear a level, players will have to match gold tiles once or silver tiles twice. If four tiles are matched, one of three power-ups will appear. The power ups are firecrackers, depth bombs, and dynamites.
There are hundreds, actually thousands of challenges and match-3 levels. You definitely won’t get bored with 6,200 Fishdom levels and 40 levels are actually added every Thursday. Apart from the match-3 puzzles, there are also other mini-games in Fishdom that are also puzzle-like in nature. Lastly, the game is available in several languages including English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, as well as Spanish
Fishdom was so successful that it also resulted in several sequels like Fishdom: Spooky Splash, Fishdom: Frosty Splash, Fishdom: Harvest Splash, and the actual direct sequel, Fishdom 2.
