Delegate - To send or authorize someone to do something, or to represent someone. (typically given to  someone with less power)

 

Empower - to give someone the power or authority to do something.

 

The mis-meaning people think of today: Delegate means to hand off something you don’t feel like you should be doing.

 

This is more or less you dumping trash on your subordinates.

This is not leadership and it is not healthy for the organization.

Since it’s trash to you, you giving it to someone else will make them feel like trash too.

Empower your people to help you accomplish the vision, not do your dirty work.
