What about the Heart? Some say it is just a reference to the inner man. Some define it as emotions in the soul, and still others were saying it is another term for the spirit of man.  None of this rings true to me. I am a word nerd concerning the original language that the Word of God was written in. I believe that God had purpose and meaning for using those words in their original language. Those words shed far deeper revelation into what the Spirit of God was speaking to the men He had chosen to pen His truth.  

I believe the Spirit of God was not just using a synonym for the inner man when He spoke of the heart. An often-referenced and theologically excepted scripture defining the inner man is - 1 Thessalonians 5:23. It says: May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (NIV)

Many have taught from this that “You are a spirit, you have a soul, and you live in a body.” But what about the heart? Jesus said in Mark 12:30 – “Love the Lord your God with all your heart ...” So, it sounds like the heart is pretty important to Jesus!! But what is it? Just emotions?

from Philippians chapter 2 verses 12 and 13

Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do His good pleasure.

Most believers in the Body of Christ will hear “work out your own salvation” and think it is their responsibility to work it out. They see “obedience” and “discipline” and “fighting the good fight” as hard and exhausting work! And what I am here to tell you today, is this! Yes, it is hard but not in the way you think it is! The fight and the difficulty is in overcoming the lies of the enemy.

So, on our last episode we began to discuss what it meant to receive a revelation from the Lord. That word revelation is such a mis-understood concept to the daily walk of so many believers. And together with wisdom (however that wisdom is imparted to us) is essential to the success of our walk in Christ.

Today I want to talk to you about the difference between Justification and Sanctification. The Apostle Paul summarizes the concept of justification in Romans 5:18 (ESV) Therefore, as one trespass (Adam’s sin) led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness (Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross) leads to justification and life for all men. Sanctification is the continual process by which God is actually making a person righteous. Sanctification is the deliverance from the power of sin and is a present and continuous process of believers becoming Christlike, accomplished by the Holy Spirit’s power and presence. Sanctification represents a believer’s victory over the flesh.

Galatians 3:19 - Why, then, was the law given? It was given alongside the promise to show people their sins. But the law was designed to last only until the coming of the child who was promised.

You see the law of God was never intended to be the answer. Jesus is the answer!!

So, if before the work of Jesus Christ on the Cross to Take away the sin of the world … rebellion against God was defined by the Law … what defines it now?
