What pushes excellence beyond the ordinary and into the  “Uncommon?”  Uncommon Excellence is the courageous decision to invest time, resources, an entire life, to sharpen a single skill to a very fine point, for the purpose of using that to make an impact on the World.  Think Albert Einstein, Jane Austen, or the less well known Mary Engle Pennington, and countless others.  While making this choice can occasionally bring wealth and fame, often it does not.  More often, making decision comes at a tremendous cost and sacrifice – relationships and family, material wealth, overall quality of life.  It is however unquestionable that people who have chosen “Uncommon Excellence” as their path, live their lives on their own terms.

Guests on this podcast all have demonstrated a life of Uncommon Excellence.  While some (and certainly not all) have been rewarded with awards, fame, and material wealth, this is not the driving force in their quest for excellence.  They live a life of uncommon excellence because they must.  For these people, there is no other choice.
