What are some things that hinder good communication?

When approaching communication ask first are you available?

Many people struggle with this in fear of offending. Don’t beat around the bush, but use tact

-Stay on topic.

Don’t bring up what happened last week or last year. Stay with the question that was asked

-Don’t interrupt/don’t get defensive.

Allow your spouse/significant other to speak without you interrupting or trying to justify your actions

-Tone

Are you angry? Calm down before approaching your spouse/significant other. A disrespectful tone won’t get your point across

-Are you regulated?

Did you get enough sleep? Are you hungry? Are you multitasking while trying to have a conversation? If these things take away from your spouse/significant other from being heard
