The last thing Zach Vorhies expected when he landed his dream job as a YouTube, senior software engineer, was to eventually be besieged in his own apartment by police.

The idea seems straightforward enough, even commendable–using AI to overcome bias (i.e., racism) in the way the search engine works. But when the license is taken to alter objective reality to create something more “fair”–who gets to decide what’s really fair, and how much truth do they distort to create the “new reality?”
