Hello & Welcome to Redemption Church of Plano Tx. My name is Chris Fluitt and I am sure glad you are here!

We are in the 5th week of our message series – The Underdog’s playbook.

We all need a good strategy. I encourage you to check out the previous 4 Underdog Playbook strategies.

Hudson Pic

My son Hudson was two years old, and he loved dressing up as Spider-Man. Every day, he ran around the house, striking poses, saving the day, convinced he was the hero in life.

One day, I was joking around and said, “Poor Hudson…”

  • Poor Hudson… He’s too small.
  • Poor Hudson… The task is too big.
  • Poor Hudson… He’s probably not able to clean up his toys…
  • But before I could finish, Hudson turned around, looked me in the eyes, and said:

    “I not poor!”

    • I don’t receive that label.
    • That is not who I am.
    • I am Spider-Man!
    • At two years old, Hudson knew something that many of us still struggle with—labels don’t define you… rank you…

      Labels & Rankings

      We know about this…
From the time we’re young, we’re placed into categories, comparisons, and rankings:

      • Smart or slow.
      • Popular or invisible.
      • Successful or struggling.
      • Strong or weak.
      • We hear these labels so often that we start to believe them.

And in today’s world, rankings determine everything.

        • Social media ranks us by likes, shares, and followers.
        • Companies rank us by job titles, paychecks, and performance.
        • Schools rank students by grades, test scores, and achievements.
        • Society ranks people based on status, influence, and appearance.
        • And if we don’t measure up, we start to think…

          • “Maybe I’m not good enough.”
          • “Maybe I’ll never win.”
          • “Maybe I’m the underdog, and I’ll always be at the bottom.”
          • The problem with labels & rankings—they’re based on the wrong system.

            • The world ranked David as too small—but God ranked him as chosen.
            • The world ranked fishermen as nobodies—but Jesus ranked them as world-changers.
            • The world ranked Jesus as defeated on the cross—but three days later, He flipped the script and changed everything.
            • That’s exactly what happened in the story of David and Goliath—except this wasn’t just an upset, this was God’s plan all along.

Today, I want to preach to you, but I also want you to preach with me.

              Poor Giant!
              You never stood a chance!

Whenever I say “Poor Giant!” I want you to say “You never stood a chance!”

              Let’s try it…

Underdog Strategy #5: Flip the Script on Your Giant

              1. The Giant Was Never the Favorite—David Was

David looked like the underdog, but he actually had the advantage.

              • Goliath had size—David had God’s promise. (1 Samuel 16:13)
              • Goliath had experience—David had God’s favor. (1 Samuel 17:37)
              • Goliath had weapons—David had the Name of the Lord. (1 Samuel 17:45)
              • David wasn’t lucky—he was chosen.

Action Step: Stop seeing yourself as the underdog—start seeing yourself as God’s chosen champion.

                (Isaiah 54:17, NIV)
                (Romans 8:37, NIV)
                (Philippians 4:13, NIV)

The Rankings were WRONG! The Giant never stood a chance.

The rankings are wrong about you!

                Poor Giant!
                You never stood a chance!

                2. Flip the Script on Fear

Israel’s army looked at Goliath and saw an undefeatable giant.
David looked at Goliath and saw an opportunity.

David wasn’t afraid because he knew:

                (Deuteronomy 20:4, NIV)

Action Step: Shift your perspective. Stop focusing on the size of your problem—focus on the size of your God.

                You will realize…

                -You do belong.
                -You can succeed.
                -You are called and chosen.
                -You rank with God!

                Poor Giant!
                You never stood a chance!

                3. Flip the Script on Your Enemy

Here’s the real truth: Your enemy is already defeated. (Bible is full of these stories…

                • The walls of Jericho stood strong—until they fell. (Joshua 6)
                • The Midianite army outnumbered Gideon’s men—until they lost. (Judges 7)
                • Daniel looked like Lion food – until it was revealed his enemies would be lion meow-mix. (Daniel 6)
                • Death looked final—until Jesus walked out of the grave. (Matthew 28)
                • These stories are my story!

They used to sing a song…

This is my story! This is my Song!
Praising my Savior all the day long!

Every promise in the Book is yours!
                  The Bible is your script!
                  -Not your bank account.
                  -Not the Doctor’s report
-Not the mean thing your boss said

Action Step: Read Your Script! Live Your Script!

There are promises you are not taking advantages of…
                  …Blessings
                  …Victories
                  …Supernatural power

                  Poor Giant!
                  You never stood a chance!

Underdog Strategy #5: Flip the Script on Your Giant

                  1. The Giant Was Never the Favorite—David Was

                  2. Flip the Script on Fear

                  3. Flip the Script on Your Enemy

                  Jesus: The Ultimate Script Flipper

Jesus didn’t just flip the script—He rewrote the entire story.

                  • Blind people were told they’d never see—Jesus gave them sight. (John 9:1-7)
                  • Outcasts were rejected—Jesus called them chosen. (Luke 5:12-13)
                  • A woman caught in adultery was condemned—Jesus forgave her and set her free. (John 8:10-11)
                  • Jesus flipped the script on sin, shame, failure, and death.

Not just stories in the Bible… your story.

He wants to give you an “I not poor” moment. Cast off… records, rankings, labels, comparisons… receive a brand new identity.

                    (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV)

                    (John 3:7, NIV)

Honesty time… You like the idea of flipping the script… but you would kind of like to stay the same.

For 40 days Goliath stood out in the Valley of Elah and terrorized the people…

It only changed when David showed up…

I am sick and tired of this Giant

I am ready to change… flip the script… ready for new life…

                    Ready to be powerful
                    Ready to change the world
Ready to repent and defeat my giant
                    Ready to get saved, baptized
                    Ready to try again

Imagine what would happen if we all defeated our Giant.

You can! Because the truth is: Your giant never stood a chance.

                    Ready to Act

                    1. Change How You See Yourself

You are not the underdog—you are God’s champion.

-Start declaring what God says about you instead of what fear says about you.

                    2. Change How You See Your Enemy

David didn’t see Goliath as unbeatable—he saw him as an obstacle to remove.

-Stop talking about how big your giant is—start declaring how big your God is.

                    3. Step Into Victory Now

David ran at Goliath. Jesus walked out of the grave. Now it’s your turn.

-Worship, Pray (be prayed for, pray for others), Be Born Again
