With Revival Weekend just around the corner, Les Norman and guest host Mark McGaughey discuss baptism: what it means and why we should do it.
Baptism is the picture of being immersed in Christ, fully covered in Him. It started as a ritual to purify the Israelites of contamination before entering the tabernacle. John the Baptist called the nation of Israel to repent and wash themselves clean of their sin. Jesus took it a step further. His body represented the uncleanness of humanity. He wanted to be washed as an example, so others would follow.
Why should you be baptized? To be clear, baptism doesn’t provide salvation. Faith in Jesus Christ saves you.
Acts 2:41 tells us that “those who accepted his message were baptized.” Repentance should come before any outward manifestation of water baptism. Afterward, baptism tells the world that you have professed your faith in Jesus. It’s also a reminder of your identity in Christ.
If you’ve decided to get baptized, Revival Weekend is the perfect time. Revival Weekend begins Friday, August 19 and continues through Sunday, August 21. Join us for worship, family fun, and baptisms.
