Understanding DC Comics – Episode 3: A New Earth
These days, Comic Book reboots have become a normal part of the industry. Origins reworked, storylines updated and histories retconned. It's become as synonymous with comic book storytelling as tights and capes. But that wasn't always the case.
In 1986, following the reality altering mega event The Crisis On Infinite Earths, DC Comics did the unthinkable. They completely reworked their entire comic book continuity and history and became the first comic company to do a full line wide retcon of their publishing base.
Heroes that had once been charter members of The Justice League, no longer existed at that time. Villains that only lived on Earth 2 or Earth 4 now were integrated together into a single Earth's history. A multi-verse had been condensed and combined into one single universe.
