Understanding End Times, Part 2 / EP 8

Listen Later

How should we interpret the book of Revelation and what it says about the rapture? Join us as father-son duo, Dale and Joel Evrist, engage in a lively discussion on the topic of Eschatology, a theological term which describes the study of end times in the Bible. In this episode, we will talk about understanding a few common modes of interpreting the book of Revelation, and some implications of holding those various views.

  • Preterist view: The view that the book of Revelation has already been fulfilled in the first century.
  • Futurist View: The view that the book of Revelation is yet to be fulfilled.
  • Metaphorical View: The view that the book of Revelation is a metaphor for the theme of triumphing with good over evil.
  • Mix of the Preterist, Futurist, and Metaphorical Views: The view that there are certain parts of the book of Revelation that have already taken place, some that are yet to come, and some that are metaphorical.

In addition, we will discuss what the Bible has to say about four common views of the rapture, which is the idea that there will be an event where Jesus catches up His Church from the earth to take us to Heaven before He's completely finished with His work on the earth. Although the two main texts supporting the validity of a rapture are 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 and Matthew 24:40-41. We will discuss the following most common views on the rapture:

  • The Pre-Tribulation Rapture View: The view that the Church will be caught up before the seven years of tribulation happens. (Revelation 4:1, Daniel 9:20-27)
  • The Mid-Tribulation Rapture/The Pre-Wrath Rapture View: The view that the Church will be caught up during the seven years of tribulation, but before God's wrath. (Revelation 7:13-14, Revelation 11:15-18, 1 Thessalonians 5:9)
  • The Post-Tribulation Rapture/The Post-wrath Rapture View: The view that the Church is still present when the wrath of God is being poured out. (Revelation 14; Revelation 11 + 13; Revelation 18:24)
  • No Rapture View: The view that there will not be a rapture.
