🍞🚪🌿 “Understanding Metaphors (Apparently Not That Easy)”
A snarky, Scripture-soaked reality check for the
“But Jesus said He’s a vine! And a door!” crowd.
Some objections to the Eucharist collapse the moment you ask,
“Did you… actually read the context?”
Because every time Jesus uses a metaphor — a real one —
He immediately explains it.
🌿 “I am the vine” → You are the branches
🚪 “I am the door” → If anyone enters through Me
🐑 “I am the shepherd” → I lay down My life
But when He says,
“Eat My Flesh”
and
“Drink My Blood,”
He doesn’t wink, soften, decode, or step in with a parable rescue.
He doubles down until half the crowd leaves…
and then turns to the Twelve like:
“You leaving too?”
That’s not how metaphors work.
That’s how literal teaching works.

And credit where credit is due:
🙌 Huge shout-out to Ferris at How To Be Christian
His breakdown of the I Am Statements is one of the clearest, funniest, and most airtight explanations of why metaphor logic cannot erase what Jesus is doing in John 6.

If you haven’t watched it, seriously — go.
It’s brilliant.
“Understanding Metaphors (Apparently Not That Easy)”
is for Scripture nerds, converts, catechists, and anyone tired of watching the Eucharist get flattened into a symbol just because Jesus once compared Himself to a plant or a piece of architecture.
