Understanding Parables (Matthew 13:1-23)
Over one third of Jesus' teaching is done in parables. But despite how frequent and memorable they are, parables have often been misunderstood and misapplied throughout church history. We expect parables to be easy to understand, but often discover that they are not. So how do we understand parables? And more importantly, how to be listen to them and allow them to transform our life?
Introduction: How are you responding to Jesus’ word?
Context
1. The Parable of the Sower (1-9)
2. The Purpose of the Parables (10-17)
a. Those who listen and receive the Kingdom
b. Those who reject and receive judgement
3. The Explanation of the Parable (18-23)
a. The path, rocky ground, thorns
b. The good soil
Conclusion: How will you respond to Jesus’ word?
