REVIVE US Series| Chimdi Ohahuna| A CALL FOR PERSONAL REVIVAL.
In the fast-paced society that we live in, waiting has become a difficult task. We want things to happen instantly and get frustrated when they don't. This mindset has also seeped into our spiritual lives, where we often expect God to act on our timeline and according to our desires. However, as believers, it is crucial for us to understand the move of God and be sensitive to it. Because ultimately, it is God's timing and plans that will bring about the fulfillment of His promises.
In Luke 24:49, Jesus tells His disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Father. This promise was the Holy Spirit, who would come upon them and empower them for the work of the kingdom. However, it was not until Acts chapter 2 that the promise was fulfilled and the Holy Spirit was given to the believers. This teaches us that there is a time and season for everything in God's plan. We cannot rush or manipulate God's timing, but we must trust in His sovereignty and wait for His perfect timing.
Moreover, the promise of the Holy Spirit is not just about receiving the gift of speaking in tongues or other spiritual gifts. It is about being empowered to live a life that is pleasing to God and fulfilling His purposes. In order to receive this promise, there is a condition that needs to be met - we must wait and be endowed with power. This power is evidence of the Holy Spirit's presence in our lives and is a proof of the fulfilled promise of the Father.
But what does it mean to wait on God? Often, we think of waiting as a passive activity, where we are just sitting around until something happens. However, waiting on God is an active and intentional act of trust and surrender. It requires us to lay down our own desires and agendas and fully trust in God's plan. As the psalmist says in Psalm 27:14, 'Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.' Waiting on God is an act of strength and faith, not weakness.
Furthermore, waiting on God also involves resting in Him. When we are waiting, we tend to become anxious and worried about the outcome. But God calls us to rest in Him and His promises. In Psalm 37:7, it says, 'Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.' This stillness and patience in waiting is an act of trust and surrender. It is a reminder that God is in control and His plans are always perfect.
We must also understand that waiting is not wasted time. God uses this season of waiting to mold and shape us into the person He wants us to be. Just like a potter molds clay, God uses this time to refine our character, strengthen our faith, and prepare us for the next season. We may not always understand why we are waiting, but we can trust that God is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).
In conclusion, the move of God is not something that can be rushed or predicted. As believers, we need to be sensitive to this move and trust in His perfect timing. We must also remember that waiting on God is not a time of inactivity, but rather a time of actively trusting and resting in Him. Let us learn to embrace the waiting season and allow God to work in us and through us for His glory. As the old saying goes, 'good things come to those who wait,' and in the case of waiting on God, the best things come to those who wait on Him.
