Grant is a true Interdisciplinary scholar and Veteran (of the British RAF) and has been involved in research, teaching, and clinical work in the following areas: autoethnography, sociology, narrative, nursing education, mental health, philosophy, qualitative, and critical inquiry for over 25 years. He is the recipient of the International Conference of Autoethnography (ICAE) 2020 Inaugural Lifetime Contribution Award.
