Unearthing Wellbeing // Emily Duggan

Welcome to Unearthing Wellbeing Podcast, Where Our Greatest Wealth Is Health.
For Episode 08 I had Emily Duggan on the podcast, V8 Supercar Racer. Emily made her racing debut in 2014 as the first female driver in Series X3 and her name has been prominent since then, winning at the second race meeting and successfully claiming 26 podium finishes in the category. Since then Emily’s career has continued to flourish, competing in the Toyota 86 series, Supercars Super3 series and being mentored by Paul Morris who labelled her the hardest- working driver in pit lane due to working on her own car mechanically.
We spoke about how the pandemic has actually been a blessing in disguise for Emily, as she was forced to recover from burnout and take the time to heal, relax, and live a slower paced life, as opposed to driving at 150+km per hour on the race track!
You can grab the link to the suggested meditative practice Emily mentioned in my blog post about mediation.
As well as you can find out how the “flame” ignited in her to pursue this career path, as well as the reason behind why she pumps Christina Aguleria in her car rides by listening to her podcast.
Off the track Emily’s success has been recognised with nominations of Sports Women of The Year and New Talent of The Year in 2019 through women in sports awards. Emily is a proud ambassador for women in sport and actively encourages school girls to dream big with her work with Dare to be Different, an event program aimed at primary school girls.
Emily’s dream has never been to be the first girl, just the first over the finish line. In the history of Australian racing there hasn’t been a female driver to win a Supercar race. This is the next achievement Emily is working towards to change. Emily can be reached on her website.
To find out what unfolded, tune into this week's episode.
