The latest figures of the Quarterly Labour Force Survey has shown that unemployment stands at 31, 9%. This is the second quarter where unemployment has declined (0,2%). According to the survey, 8 million South Africans are unemployed. This 3, 1 million more people than a decade ago.

Statistics South Africa released the fourth quarter findings for 2024 yesterday, on the eve of the Budget Speech. While the new figures show that five provinces have lowered unemployment, there is concern regarding the absorption rate which only increased by 0,1% to 41,1%. This raises concerns around the types of jobs are in the labour market and if there are long-term growth for workers.
