The Milgram Experiment has come to be known as a groundbreaking study that examined how far someone could be convinced to obey authority, even to the point of harming another individual. Conducted in the early 1960’s on the grounds of Yale University, Milgram put forth his theory of conformism: when an individual who does not have enough knowledge to make a decision, will often defer to a higher authority, even violating their own conscience through pressure or coercion.
In today’s day and age, we are being inundated with a barrage of non stop information, through the increased use of technology and social media. But along the lines of Milgram’s warnings, do we run the risk of being told “all is well” and we must embrace what is popular or what is the majority think without any resistance or conflict? What is really going on here? Is the ongoing message of fear and division just another ploy of the tyrannical, power hungry elites, to keep the masses in check?
In his latest UNFILTERED podcast, Frank Sontag ponders the dangers we may be facing as a world, by abandoning the art of critical thinking or even questioning what we are told is true. Frank also shares his passionate perspective on where we need to go from here, and to live out our lives to the fullest.
But have we as a people lost our moral high ground? Have we even freely given up our souls? Is it too late? Or is this the moment in our history when we need wake up, wipe the slumber from our spiritual eyes, and step into the true meaning and purpose of our God given lives?
