Exodus 20:7 is a commandment which says Do not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. We immediately think of GD when we hear this, but is that all it means or does that commandment refer something deeper?

I keep looking but the Bible doesn’t have a list of banned English vocabulary. So anything goes, right? No, not so fast.

James 3:10 says Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

We are pretty selective about who we allow into our homes.  A home should be a place of comfort, security, safety, nurturing, and love.  When we have guests it stands to reason guests not only have access to one or two rooms, they have access to the entire house including the occupants and even the land it sits on. Just like we  wouldn’t dream of allowing anyone or anything the access that would threaten our home, the same should go for our spiritual house. When the devil is given a foothold, he not only has access to one room, he has access to the entire house.

Proverbs 4:23 says Above all else guard your heart for everything you do flows from it.

Proverbs 4:23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
We have all been around someone who is prone to complain. They complain so much that sometimes you wonder if complaining is the only thing that makes them happy. Truth be known we have all been that person at times. But here’s another truth. God actually hates complaining. When we complain, it demonstrates a lack of faith in God‘s promises, provision, and sovereignty. 
Does that mean we should keep our mouths shut and pretend things are good when they aren’t? Well, that depends on if you are complaining or lamenting. What’s the difference? Take a listen.

Jesus I know, Paul I know, but who are you?

This account is from Acts 19:11-17 where Jewish exorcists tried to cast out an evil spirit and the above was the evil spirit’s response before it overcame the Jewish exorcists, beat them up to the point of stripped their clothing and sent the men running out of the house naked and afraid. 

Knowing about God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit doesn’t carry the same weight as knowing them personally. We can name drop but it doesn’t mean anything if we don’t bother to have the relatioship.

Mark 8:22-26 has always been a peculiar record to me.  There are many things to unpack here, and you can listen to my thoughts. But I do encourage you to study this on your own and see what the Holy Spirit would say to you.

22 And they came to Bethsaida. And some people brought to him a blind man and begged him to touch him. 23 And he took the blind man by the hand and led him out of the village, and when he had spit on his eyes and laid his hands on him, he asked him, “Do you see anything?”24 And he looked up and said, “I see people, but they look like trees, walking.” 25 Then Jesus[a]laid his hands on his eyes again; and he opened his eyes, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26 And he sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.”

Romans 8:37 KJV Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
The victim mentality is a powerful tool satan uses to try and make us forget our true identity in Christ. Many psychologists agree that the victim mentality is a learned mental state but if it’s learned that means it can be unlearned. 
God is not blind to our problems nor is He numb to the emotions that accompany those problems.Just like Jesus asked the crippled man if he wanted to be healed, we too must decide whether or not we really want the help God provides and be mature enough to accept the responsibility and the accountability that comes with it.

Psalm 141:3 says, "Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.”

God spoke the universe and everything in it into existence. Words have the power to bless and to curse, to bring life and death. The words we speak to others, even about ourselves can also bring blessings and curses. So it’s no surprise Jesus warned His disciples they will be held accountable for every idle word spoken.

Typically, we don’t have emotions about something unless we have a thought about it first.  We are bombarded by thoughts positive and negative every waking hour. If our thoughts are out of control, so will our emotions be out of control.  2 Corinthians 10:5 can save a lot of heartache if we just do what it says.
