Father Richard Lavigne was the lone suspect in the vicious killing of a 13-year-old altar boy on April 14, 1972 on the banks of the Chicopee River in western Massachusetts. Despite plenty of circumstantial evidence, there was no eyewitness. So the local DA, a devout Catholic and friend of the local Bishop, declined to pursue murder charges.
