Uni, Student Life & Afterwards: Antiguan & Vincy Perspectives

Listen Later

Four people reflect on their time at university, how it changed them, why they chose their fields, and where they see themselves in the future. We asked them: What do you come away with after higher education? And how do you go forward? For many of us, going to school is not only about gaining qualifications or enhancing employability. It can be a chance to mature, to establish social and political interests, to discover passions, to learn life skills, and to build lasting relationships. As people from Antigua and Barbuda, and the Caribbean ready themselves for new programmes of study, or contemplate their next move having graduated, we discuss the take-aways of higher education and the prospects for people leaving school.

The host is Kieron Murdoch. The guests are:

  1. Bianca Merchant, an Antiguan and Barbudan graduate of The University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill. She's presently a part-time lecturer at the Antigua State College (ASC). Her first degree is in economics with a focus on development economics.
  2. Kelsey Harris, an Antiguan and Barbudan who recently graduated from the Seton Hall University. She completed her bachelor’s degree in diplomacy and international relations. She's been selected as a Commonwealth Scholar and will be pursuing a master’s degree in development studies at the London School of Economics.
