In this episode we welcome our first guest: Jan Hengeveld. As a low-code strategist, Jan can tell us all about the commercial side of having an application developed in Uniface.

We pick up the thread from the previous episode, where we talked about unnamed Uniface competitors claiming that converting into their platform takes no more time than upgrading to Uniface 10. Jan agrees with Henk: utter nonsense.

But why switch to other technology at all? Uniface could easily be the best choice. The benefits of having an application in Uniface is a continuous stream of business benefits. Jan explains it to us.

In this episode, Peter and Henk discuss the difference between a Uniface ‘upgrade’ and ‘migration. Henk shares his experience with dozens of migrations, explains why professional support is often essential and gives two of his biggest pieces of advice. The podcast concludes with a challenge to highlight the commercial perspective of Uniface users in future episodes.

Peter and Henk talk about their experience of performance issues with applications moving from on-prem to off-prem. Henk opted for Uniface Anywhere in the process, while Peter took the matter by the horns.

While talking, they came to the conclusion that application logic is not static. If the environment changes, it may be necessary to adapt the application accordingly. Applications move with their environment. It may also be necessary to upgrade the application to the highest version of Uniface. Let that be Henk's speciality!

Henk casually relates what he found on a website of a competitor of Uniface. This competitor claims that rebuilding the application is cheaper and faster than upgrading to the highest version. Of course, this is not based on anything or, as Henk aptly summarises it: Utter nonsense!

In this first episode Peter introduces Henk as the cohost for first and only podcast about Uniface. Henk found the name 'Uniface podcast' a bit boring and came up with the name for the podcast: the Unicast podcast.
