Following the tragic death of Tia Cameron, the Brisbane City Council called for stricter safety checks for older bus drivers, but the Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) warns this could force hundreds of experienced drivers off the road.

RTBU Assistant State Secretary Tom Brown argued that the focus should instead be on mandating proper, frequent breaks for all drivers, rather than raising an already high medical standard.
