The CSIS Middle East Program invites you to join Dr. Jon Alterman and Senator Tammy Duckworth for a convervsation on the United States and Iraq. Dr. Alterman will discuss the current U.S. strategy in Iraq with Senator Duckworth, who will reflect on her experience serving in that country.

Senator Tammy Duckworth is a U.S. senator for Illinois and retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel who deployed to Iraq in 2004 as a Blackhawk helicopter pilot. Prior to her election to the Senate, Senator Duckworth represented the Eighth District of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives for two terms—from 2013 to early 2017. Before that, she served as Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs under President Barack Obama as well as Director of the Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs from 2006 to 2008.
