Yeshua is the head of the church and gave Himself for it. He equipped it for mission and when the church operates as a cohesive entity, the powers of darkness trembles. The gifts given to the church is to equip the saints for the work of the ministry and build up the body of Yeshua. 

Though there are different gifts, it's the same Spirit who distributes as He decides to give to each person. And as the physical body has many members yet one unit, so are we in Yeshua.
