In Ephesians 4:13–16, Paul calls the Church to grow intospiritual maturity by becoming united in faith, deeply rooted in the knowledge of Christ, and fully reflecting His character. This growth is not passive but requires resisting immature instability and false teaching, which Paul warns can subtly lead us astray through deceitful tactics. Instead, we are to "truth in love"—a rich phrase that implies living out the truth of the gospel with integrity, humility, and compassion in every relationship and interaction. This kind of love-infused truth-telling fosters real growth and keeps the body of Christ healthy and unified. As Christ is both the source and authority of the Church, He holds all things together and empowers each part to work properly, building the community up in love. For us today, this means practicing gospel truth with Christlike love, speaking life-giving words, standing firm in sound doctrine, and supporting one another toward maturity as one body under one Head.
