Nearly all of our existing anti-CoVid therapeutic antibodies lack the power to vanquish the latest Omicron subvariant XBB1.5. This scary reality has driven Australian researchers to find a class of antibody that reacts against sites on the CoVid spikes that are less likely to mutate. By using B-cell sorting on blood from recovered CoVid patients, they found and were able to generate quantities of 2 human antibodies that bind to such non-mutating sites. Both these antibodies effectively protected mice against CoVid challenges with a variety of variants and subvariants. This discovery and technology leads the way to creating more universally effective anti-CoVid antibody treatments.
