*Unlearning*
Have you ever tried to pour water into a glass that is already full? It feels dumb. Right?
But we go through each day doing exactly that.
We start each day with an intent to learn and grow. However, when we encounter things that are contrary to our beliefs, we make judgements. We resist understanding a new perspective.
We try to fill a glass that is already full.
Why does this happen?
Accepting that we could be wrong or acknowledging that there could be something different out there can be challenging. How could our efforts to acquire knowledge, skills, and experience bee a waste of our time and money?
Our ego can be so strong that we reject new learning altogether.
Each day, as we encounter different experiences, it's important to keep an open mind. It's important to empty our cup.
We need to Unlearn what we already know. We need to rest our ego and begin recognising that we may not have all the answers. We should think about the possibility that we could learn something new.
This the essence of a learning and growth mindset. If we are always on the lookout for opportunities that teach us, chances that provide new insights, we will always create a win-win situation.
What can we do:
- Practice Gratitude. Let's be thankful for all opportunities for learning and growth in our lives.
- Let's practice unlearning what we already know
- Let's practice creating an understanding that there is value in diverse opinions
- Let's practice accepting that we don't know everything
Unlearning can be the key to success and happiness if you choose to become a _lifelong learner_.
