"When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, 'Son, your sins are forgiven.' Now some of the scribes were sitting there, questioning in their hearts, 'Why does this fellow speak in this way? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone?'" - Mark 2:5-7

What is forgiveness? How does it relate to sin? This first Sunday of Lent, we listen to the first miracle story of Jesus healing a paralyzed man in Mark and the woman who anoints Jesus’ feet in Luke. These stories invite us to understand God’s forgiveness as well as the relationship between forgiveness and sin.
