Unreliable instant Covid tests caused the White House outbreak. The same tests they're sending out to the states. They're worse than no tests at all.
61 of 65 positive tests at a clinic in VT were false. The manufacturer also acknowledges that it misses 1 in 3 infections in people who are sick with Covid and showing symptoms, even more in people without symptoms ( for whom the tests aren't recommended at all). This isn't the only incident where they failed that badly though. The outbreak in the White House can be partially blamed on these same inaccurate instant tests, which failed to detect infected people who then spread their infection to the entire White House.
The false negatives will miss cases and cause deaths. The false positives will cause people who are not sick to be referred to labs for PCR testing which will make their backlog even worse and once that happens, we will WISH that it still only took 10 days to get a Covid test result
If the Trump Administration was serious about fighting covid-19, they would work on building up laboratory PCR testing capacity so that we could get results within a day or two at most and actually begin tracing contacts in time to prevent further infections.. But they don't care about fighting it until the vaccine is here. Their strategy is herd immunity. It has been from the beginning and it will be until this time next year when the vaccine finally becomes available.
