Story Transcript:

Af: In die hartjie van die besige stad Kaapstad, waar die berge hoog staan en die see helder blou blink, gebeur 'n snaakse storie met 'n man genaamd Johan.
En: In the heart of the busy city of Cape Town, where the mountains stand high and the sea shines bright blue, a peculiar story unfolded involving a man named Johan.

Af: Johan was 'n stil en bedeesde man, wat altyd sy gedagtes vir homself gehou het.
En: Johan was a quiet and reserved man, who always kept his thoughts to himself.

En: But on this particular day, everything changed.

En: The sun had just begun to set and the sky was full of color when Johan, as usual, boarded the bus to go home.

En: The bus was filled with noise and laughter, but Johan remained lost in his own world, staring ahead.

Af: "Ons moet net daardie kontrak sluit!
En: "We just need to close that deal!

Af: Kan jy glo hoe onnosel die kliënte soms is?
En: Can you believe how foolish the clients can be sometimes?"

Af: " het Johan aan homself gedink.
En: Johan thought to himself.

En: But this time, without realizing it, his thoughts came out loud.

En: It didn't take long before a few nearby passengers turned their heads towards him.

En: His cheeks took on a deep shade of red, and he tried to cover himself with his briefcase.

Af: "Het ek dit nou regtig gedoen?
En: "Did I really just do that?"

En: he asked himself, but this time softly and with a whisper.

Af: Op daardie oomblik het 'n vriendelike ou tannie langs hom gesê, "Moenie bekommer nie, my kind.
En: At that moment, a friendly old lady next to him said, "Don't worry, my dear.

En: Speak your heart out, then you'll feel better."

En: Johan nodded, still blushing and embarrassed.

Af: Die tannie se naam was Maureen en sy was 'n deel van die gemeenskap vir so lank as wat enige iemand kon onthou.
En: The lady's name was Maureen and she had been a part of the community for as long as anyone could remember.

En: She always had a way of calming people and bringing peace where there was discomfort.

En: She and Johan then started talking, and strangely enough, Johan opened up – he talked about his work, about the pressure, and how he wished he could sometimes just escape.

En: Maureen listened with a smile, nodding occasionally in understanding.

En: The bus ride quickly passed with their company, and as it was time to disembark, Johan felt a strange lightness.

En: He smiled at Maureen and said, "Thank you, I really needed that."

En: From that day on, Johan regularly sat across from Maureen on the bus, and their conversations became bright rays of light in his day.

Af: Wat begin het as 'n ongelukkige fout, het geëindig as 'n gelukkige wending in Johan se lewe.
En: What started as an unfortunate mistake ended as a happy turn in Johan's life.

En: He no longer felt alone in the big city of Cape Town.

En: Johan learned that being yourself and sharing your thoughts is sometimes the best way to find true friendship and relief.

Af: En alles danksy 'n eenvoudige per ongeluk in 'n bus in Kaapstad.
En: And all thanks to a simple accident on a bus in Cape Town.
