Tragically, the transplant failed to engraft long-term, and Ashley's journey concluded in 1998, leaving Jason and Deborah to grapple with the profound loss of his eight-year-old daughter. This heartache was compounded in 2000 when Deborah began experiencing symptoms of probable Multiple Sclerosis. After a year of steady decline, that diagnosis was changed to Multiple System Atrophy in 2009, culminating in the death of Deborah in 2010.
