Notes
Nobody wants to be a hypocrite.
If you want to make a permanent change in behavior, you must change how you think about yourself, in order to experience an identity shift.
One of the most effective ways to change your behavior is to change your identity. Our perception of who we are—our identity or self-image—has a dramatic effect on our future actions.
The key to lasting behavioral change lies in IDENTITY CHANGE. Our behaviors are deeply connected to how we perceive ourselves.
By altering our self-concept, our actions naturally align with this new identity. It's not just about DOING differently; it's about BEING different.
Focusing on behaviors without addressing our identity sets us up to fail.
All of us have a dysfunctional loop in some area of our lives.
Uncomfortable feeling – Irrational thought – Unhealthy action – Painful Consequence – Uncomfortable Feeling
How do we address our identity so we can experience lasting life-change?
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!
And a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, and I am wonderfully pleased with him.”
The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
The same enemy that attacks Jesus’s identity attacks our identity.
So Jesus called a child to come and stand in front of them, and said, “I assure you that unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven.”
“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”
Identity – Orphan/survival – Earner/transactional – Beloved/relational
Our identity determines our behaviors, and our actions decide the quality of our life.
Jesus enables anyone to live out their true identity as a beloved child of God
