Hey UN•THERAPIST & Whatever Face Podcast Family!
We need to UN•THERAPIZE something that has been part of the culture for generations…
FISH PLATES.
But not just any fish plates - the fish plates we start selling when somebody dies.
The fish plates, raffles, BBQs, donations, GoFundMe pages, and community fundraisers that suddenly appear because a family is trying to figure out how to pay for a funeral.
And that got us thinking…
Why are we so good at coming together AFTER the crisis… but not always planning BEFORE it?
For this special crossover episode, we're linking up with the good folks from Whatever Face Podcast to have a conversation about the things we don't always want to talk about until we're forced to.
We're talking about financial planning, discernment, grief, guilty-pleasure music, and the decisions that can either prepare us for life or leave somebody else cleaning up the pieces.
📌 Why is long-term financial planning so easy to postpone?
📌 Why do we wait until there's a crisis to start asking for money?
📌 Is community fundraising a beautiful example of Black communities taking care of our own or a sign that we aren't financially prepared for emergencies?
📌 What does discernment have to do with the choices we make today?
📌 And why are we willing to plan the party, the vacation, and the outfit… but not always the things we KNOW eventually have to happen?
Then, because this is UN•THERAPY and Whatever Face, we couldn't possibly have a conversation this serious without getting into some guilty pleasures, entertainment, and the shows that have us locked in.
From Untold Stories to The Blacklist, Lioness, A Toxic Love Story, and American Greed, we're sharing recommendations while asking ourselves what these stories can teach us about people, choices, relationships, power, and consequences.
And somewhere between the laughs, the uncomfortable questions, and the recommendations…
we might have to ask ourselves:
Are we actually prepared for the life we're living?
Because maybe the goal isn't to stop selling fish plates. Maybe the goal is to make sure nobody HAS to sell one just to survive a crisis.
Join us for our ever crossover episode of UN•THERAPY Podcast x Whatever Face Podcast for a conversation about financial planning, discernment, culture, grief, guilty pleasures, and the realities we don't always want to face until it's too late.
