Unversed Cast

And now, for our feature presentation.

The Unversed Willies discuss the most disappointing game of 2025: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Also, if you're wondering why I pronounce the first syllable of Sylux that way, it's because used to watch GrievousRocks' let's plays of the Prime games back in the day. At some point he pronounced Sylux as "Sillux," and ever since I've always said it that way. It's a hard habit to shake, and AFAIK it wasn't until the end of Prime 4 we got an official pronunciation of "Sailux" in-game. Anyways, Sylux sux.

Dear listeners: if you prefer the audio only version of the Unversed Cast, then I need you to make your voices heard here in the SoundCloud comments. SoundCloud hosting costs have tripled since we started and we don't have a lot of traffic or engagement to show for it. If I don't see a signficant groundswell of support for the audio version, then I'm cancelling it and only posting a video version.

Picard and Dathon at El-Adrel.

Yeah, it's late again. But what are you going to do? I started a new degree program this year and I've been busy. Ryan wrote a book last year and has been busy. King was agreeable on scheduling the whole time but was waiting on us.

We wrap up 5 hours of 2024 goodness by talking about other games we enjoyed this year, culminating in Exo and King's games of the year. If you ever wanted to hear King explain a deckbuilder roguelite to a grown man at his own request, look no further.

We recorded this podcast on March 14th, the day that Krabs fries. This was before the big Switch 2 Direct that revealed DK Bananza, Kirby Air Riders, etc. Yeah, we're always behind.

The boys return to discuss the games we enjoyed in 2024. King pays tribute to a Soulslike with the feel of a 6th generation licensed game. Ryan chronicles his experience with an obscure Nintendo franchise that finally got brought back in the twilight days of the Switch 1. Exo discusses an indie open world game related to a bunch of Japanese-exclusive PlayStation games nobody over here has played.

Exo complains a bunch about 2024 RPGs that people worked really hard on. KingK drops a bombshell regarding a sequel that only he and Alonzo were looking forward to. Ryan seems really uncomfortable criticizing a game he didn't enjoy.

Yeah, this one took a long time. Look, Ryan was really busy in the early months of the year and had only played three games, so we ended up recording in early March. Meanwhile, the Game Mavericks have been recording non-stop, so I had to get away from the Unleashed playthrough long enough to edit. Then I decided to start exercising more so I could stand to look at myself in a mirror, and that slowed down the edit. Wait, what were we talking about?

Exo gets the lead out of his pants and edits another podcast in less than a week. This time, we're talking about the best Sonic game in recent memory, possibly ever. And for once, that's not hyperbole.

Hey folks, long time no see! We kick off a celebration of The Year of Shadow with a retrospective on the Paramount movie trilogy: Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022), and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024). KingK also discusses the TV Show that is definitely about Knuckles (2024) and not some other character.

Who's up for some filler? Ryan and King talk about a couple games they forgot about in the last three videos. Then Exo talks about his experiences playing the Xenoblade Chronicles Trilogy in 2023.

(We'll talk about our favorites of 2023 next week, I promise)
