Will it really take 15-20 years to educate our youth and fundamentally shift society?
Can the planet really recover from all human destruction in 100-200 years?
The United States has no grand strategy for Environmental Security as it cannot tell itself a consistent, believable story about what is happening and stick to it. It does not fully comprehend how environmental security has become an increasingly critical component of its own national security, sovereignty and legitimacy. The Federal Government and previous administrations have continued to use outdated assumptions and data to make decisions, resulting in policies and strategies unfit for the 21st century.
Environmental security threats directly endanger US National Security and need to be written into the American security agenda and Federal legislation at or above the level equal to the illegal trade in weapons, drugs, people, money laundering and terrorism.
A further obstacle–There are no environmental security officers, liaisons or true experts in US embassies or consulates, indicating the US does not take climate change or environmental security very seriously.
We need to be part of a generation of propaganda that makes consumption and environmental destruction completely unacceptable, just like the N-word.
Government is outsourcing their responsibility to police citizens to airlines. The EPA and other Federal Agencies (DOJ) would fine companies for infractions of fly-tipping, chemical runoff, general pollution and environmental damage. The goal is to make it unprofitable for business as usual and force innovation towards future-proof, more sustainable business models. What financial institution in the world is going to work with you when you have a pending fine with Uncle Sam? Can the US use OFAC against global polluters?
Are Religion or Authoritarianism the only options to avoid a climate disaster?
Can a small sacrifice get rid of Dan Snyder and make Washington Football competitive again?
If we don’t decide that everything in the environment is important, there will be cheating and a race to the bottom.
We need to use the media to draw focus and drive real action on the most important topic in the world today. The climate.
Are we doomed to remain simple Consumption Units for business?
If 20% of the US population stopped eating meat, dairy and fish tomorrow, we would all be amazed at the innovation of these industries to create new products just to stay in business. If we cut off a large enough portion of demand and revenue across any industry, changes would occur at light speed. How can we ignite collective action to drive these changes?
