Since 1977, Dannion has worked diligently, looking for the best way to integrate conventional and complementary medicine. Having survived numerous brushes with death, Dannion is an expert in the dying process. He was struck twice by lightning and has since survived heart failure, open-heart surgery, ruptured subdural hematomas, brain surgery, and a massive grand mal seizure. That first lightning strike radically changed his life. Dannion became a hospice and nursing home volunteer. In the past 25 years of volunteer service, he has been at the bedside of over 340 people at the point of death, and more than 1200 during their final days, accruing more than 16,000 hours of service. Often described as a movement it all began when the first volunteers were arrested for feeding the homeless. Artist, activist, and author Keith McHenry co-founded Food Not Bombs in Boston with seven friends in 1980. He enjoyed his childhood living at the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Shenandoah and several other National Parks. Keith studied painting at Boston University and started a graphic design company called Brushfire Graphics. He has recovered, cooked and shared food with the hungry with Food Not Bombs for over 30 years. Keith was arrested "for making a political statement" by sharing vegan meals in San Francisco, spent a total two years in jail and faced 25 years to life in prison. He has written two books including "Hungry for Peace - How you can help end poverty and war with Food Not Bombs." Keith lives with his partner and fellow Food Not Bombs activist, Abbi Samuels, in Santa Cruz, California and at their farm in Taos, New Mexico and tending to their gardens, sharing meals with the hungry, maintaining the movement's websites and helping coordinate logistics for Food Not Bombs.
