About this episode

We’re going to be discussing something that everyone experiences after birth, and that is the leaking of bodily fluids, namely blood, sweat, milk and tears! We’re going to share our personal experiences and hopefully reassure people that blood loss after birth, night sweats and leaky boobs are all very normal. We’re going to try and keep it light hearted but also ensure people know what to expect and offer any advice we might have.

We will be talking about sex with your significant other but also solo sex. So, whether you’re in a relationship or a single parent, this episode is for you!

To be clear, we’re not talking about serious or diagnosed mental health conditions but focusing on the combination of sleep deprivation, exhaustion, raging hormones and overwhelming responsibility that comes with being a parent to a small person - or multiple small people - that can cause you to act somewhat irrationally at times. We’re talking about the moments of madness that leave you feeling like you’ve completely lost your mind!

Steph is a mother of three, an entrepreneur, blogger and podcaster.

She is the CEO and founder of Don’t Buy Her Flowers, a thoughtful giftbox service. Steph started Don’t Buy Her Flowers in 2014 after having her first baby and being inundated with lots of beautiful bouquets that as well as her and her new baby, needed looking after! It started with just three gift boxes that Steph packed and sent out from her spare bedroom.

If you’re tuning in for some solid reliable advice on how to potty train, I’m afraid this is the wrong podcast, or at least the wrong episode!

We’re going to be discussing something that affects a LOT of people in pregnancy and after birth, but is still pretty taboo, probably because it can feel a little bit embarrassing. We’re going to be talking about wee - yup, pissing yourself! As well as full blown accidents, we’re going to be talking about the little leaks and the near-misses! We’re going to share our personal experiences and hopefully normalise talking about what is a really common issue for people, especially those who are pregnant or have given birth.

About Tinuke

Tinuke is a mother of two, a blogger, content creator, campaigner and early years learning enthusiast. She is the founder of Mums & Tea, started back in 2017 when she was 9 months pregnant with her first son Ezekiel. She sought to build a tribe around her, since she was the first one out of her close circle of friends to have a baby. She knew she couldn’t be the only young black woman in southeast London to have just had a baby, so started hosting monthly events to connect with other mums from similar backgrounds. Through the Mums and Tea events she has been able to connect many mums together to create lifelong friendships sharing all the joys and struggles that we go through as black British mothers.

Five X More is a grassroots organisation committed to changing Black women and birthing people’s maternal health outcomes in the UK. It was initiated in 2019 when two Black mothers came together with the dream of improving maternal mortality rates and health care outcomes for Black women. Five X More is dedicated to supporting mothers and birthing people with its campaigning work and recommendations. It focuses on empowering Black women and birthing people to make informed choices and advocate for themselves throughout their pregnancies and after childbirth.
